CICÆDA

singer-songwriter

Though her songwriting roots can be traced back to an early age, Ottawa-native Caitlin Roe didn’t discover her alter ego cicæda until early 2017.

After the release of her debut single Patience, waves of support and encouragement from friends and family created a desire to begin pursuing her art to a career-oriented degree. This led to the release of subsequent singles Peach & Lemonade and Fine in the summer followed by her debut EP Songs I Wrote About U in the fall of 2018.

The release of her debut project generated subsequent ripples of support locally from both industry personnel, friends, and fans alike, resulting in a highly successful release show and debut performance. Released under the facade of uplifting electro-pop, cicæda’s writing process begins bedside with an acoustic guitar and the voice memos app. With an open and honest songwriting procedure, her music is often credited as “relatable” and “empathetic”; and her lyrical content commonly referred to as “emotive” and “dramatic”.

cicæda's work thus far has gone through Ottawa producer and engineer RIP VCTR whose notoriety stems predominantly from the local hip-hop/R&B scene. As a result, much of her material daunts heavy bass-lines, punchy drums and intoxicating melodies to back up raw and vulnerable lyrics.

In the summer of 2019, cicæda released High Voltage, her most successful single to date, and hosted and organized a charity benefit show for Shelter Movers backed by local female musicians including Michelle Treacy.
